delta difference - the core idea

"I confess!" - The origins of delta difference do not root back from my brain. July 13, 2006 - bored from the induction lecture @ my 1st job at Amdocs, I took refuge in the balcony of floor 7, Amdocs Pune. Thats where i banged into Mr. Anjaneya Tiwari - a fellow refugee and we started talking. The discussion shifted to a topic of common interest - philosophy. Thats wen Anjan spoke of delta difference - "He believed that all humans are 99% same and that there is only but a delta difference between them." "Back to the conference room, pls!" - interrupted the HR asking us back to the necessary boredom. After that moment, until I wrote this piece, I dint get a chance to Anjan. 23rd July, two days before I flew to Israel where I wrote this article, I was out on a long walk with my close buddy - Aditya Chandak and as usual we had a long and intense argument - this time over the role of hard work, destiny and luck !!

It is in this background that I wrote "delta difference - the core idea"

Gradual Evolution of delta difference

All humans have been designed to be different! The GITA states that each man has a certain intellect and life in accordance to his karma.... Similarly, each religion or sect has their own SO-CALLED complete explanations of destiny and the harshness of life.

Let me talk in a little more lucid language. The original Indian caste system was originally made, designed to be completely merit based, completely - anti delta difference!!
It stated that man according to his intellect fell under the one of the categories:
1. Brahman (The priests / Scientists / doctors)
2. kshatriya (The politicians / soldiers / statesmen)
3. Vaniya (Trader)
4. Shudra (Farmers / Laborers / Workers)
Children from all society were sent to a common gurukul (school), away from their family and backgrounds and then according to their intellect and psyche - they were recategorized into one of the following category. And after being trained in their respective genres, they were re inducted into the society. This system was completely merit-based and there was large difference between people.... They led a life according to their capabilities.

Now, with years to come.... each father thought what if his son was not capable enough and is sent to a lower genre ~ ... hence they slowly shifted to a new system of inheritance!.. which eventually degraded the system and the country in general! However still, HEROISM was respected!!!

[COMMENT:: A similar system was introduced by the Nazi Regime during WW2, when they started restructuring the German society. The system became a big disaster when the Nazi regime fell and thousands of kids were left as orphans w/o knowledge of who their true parents were.!]

Now lets get into some mathematics and logic...
What better example to take than cricket!!
Which Indian cricket team was better?
1. The Indian team when only Sachin Tendulkar played...
2. The present cricket team.. where everyone contributes their part not to mention individual brilliance ll b more than welcomed!...
Obviously, option 2....

Based on this logic, the pundits that have shaped this world, decided to re-invent the world and the system based on DELTA DIFFERENCE.!! The idea being to have only but a DELTA DIFFERENCE between most of them... Thereby making the society as productive as possible.. Delta Difference is best seen in the world armies and the best picture that comes to my mind is that of the Roman Army... I needn't comment on the success of the Roman Army. Delta Difference started becoming more and more visible and implemented into human society after the Industrial Revolution and the world wars...!!
- ALL kids go to school
- the smartest and the dumbest kid sit together and study the same thing
- All men go to office
......

Even as you would have entered the corporate environment, notice... There is only but a delta difference between you and the smarter employee [doesn't mean you are dumb.. kidding...] Both are given equal opportunities to perform and the offset or drag generated by a weaker mind is filled up by the smarter brain in the name of team work!... Actually the smarter ones are paying the price for being smart.... Agreed, growth and recognition is more for the smarter chap than the weaker guy,.... But again, theres is also a delta difference in that!!

Notice well.... the death of heroism is the birth of delta difference....

Even if an incarnation / avaatar of a God were to come to this planet today - there would still be only but a delta difference between him and you as both would start off. Such is the power of the standardization in the society, today! Society doesn't want heros'....!!

Society doesnt want HEROS!!...

Noticed why?? Because one cannot be a Hero without having a villain! A hero is a hero because he has a villain to defeat... Realized that ever?? The greatness of the hero in fact is determined by the greatness of the villain. Sherlock Holmes isn't "Sherlock Holmes" if it weren't for Prof Moriati!! [Spare my spelling please Mr. ... you should have a simpler name :) neways!!] Today somewhere there could be a real detective 100 times smarter than Sherlock - but since, suppose, we live in a crime less world - he shall never be recognized. And hence, his heroism - wasted. The modern day society is in fact killing heroisms... and by doing so killing the villans and the villainous acts from society!

Let me explain with an example... What are the chances of any of us to build an empire like that of Microsoft given the similar tools?? ZERO! Wat are the chances of Hitler being reborn..?? ZERO! Wat are the chances of you making it exceptionally BIG??? Less!!
........... Realize it! well... agreed.. you can make easily a few million dollars here and there and sometimes even reach the billion mark by the time you die... great great... but NOT great ENOUGH! Why? Because... all of it is well within the society limits. It doesn't surpass the upper limit set by society. There will still be a DELTA DIFFERENCE between you and a many people around you...!!

Okay... Look around you... And realise the number of people going to die of hunger is reducing...
Having a fridge and tv and car and cell... and all other nonsense you can think has become as pedestrian as possible... The number of poor are going down...!! But at the same time... the number of EXCEPTIONALLY POWERFUL DUDES is also reducing... Delta Difference is acting all around us in full force... What are the chances tht you will be the next Bill Gates, or the next Achilles or the next Alexander the Great or the next George Bush.. [hmmm...na.. i think i dont wanna be George Bush!! ] What are the chances tht your name will b written DOWN in the annals of mankind !! Admit it!! vvvvvvvvv Slim!! The millions or the billions ain't gonna define the HEROISM!! So.... 1 things concluded... Moneys not the criteria for being a HERO in the modern day world!... Achieving money is sure shot difficuilt... but NOT impossible...!!

As we see, DELTA DIFFERENCE is your biggest problem and yet again :) your biggest opportunity. Your biggest hurdle because the complete SOCIETY is going to hold you tight from allowing you to SHOOT up into space - into heroism. But again it is your biggest opportunity if you manipulate the COMPLETE delta DIFFERENCE of society...!!
